New support for Canadian SMEs to develop and advance clean technologies through to commercialization

Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are developing, demonstrating and commercializing clean technologies have the possibility of accessing support from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). Developing these innovative clean technologies will provide greater environmental benefits for Canada and improve our economic prosperity.

SMEs that meet the following criteria can be considered for NRC IRAP clean technology support:

  • Be a for-profit business incorporated in Canada

  • Have a maximum of 500 full-time employees working in Canada

  • Have employed staff other than the founders that include both technical and business staff

  • Be seeking growth through development and demonstration of innovative and technology-driven products, services or processes

  • Be developing new clean technologies for commercialization

  • Have a plan for providing environmental benefits, including greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, clean soil, clean air or clean water

SMEs must demonstrate:

  • They have an innovative technology, typically TRL 5 or TRL 6 (TRL definition)

  • They have identified measurable and quantifiable environmental impacts for their technological innovation

  • They have identified a path to commercialization for their innovation
