Project Title:
AI Energy CoPilot Pilot for Distributed Demand Management in Medicine Hat

Challenge Area:
Grid Decongestion at the Customer/Building Level

Focus Areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence in energy optimization

  • Real-time monitoring and data analytics

  • Demand-side management and energy forecasting

  • Energy efficiency for industrial and commercial facilities

Project Objectives

  • Deploy AI-enabled energy management tools in up to 20 high-consumption Medicine Hat facilities

  • Reduce customer-level peak demand through demand response and load shifting

  • Provide real-time insights into energy consumption and anomalies

  • Improve operational efficiency without adding burden to facility staff

  • Enable long-term emissions reductions through data-informed retrofits

Project Summary

Edgecom Energy’s pilot project brings its award-winning AI Energy CoPilot and energy intelligence platform to Medicine Hat. This initiative will equip industrial and commercial facilities with real-time energy monitoring, predictive analytics, and customized AI recommendations to reduce demand on the grid—especially during peak times.

By using modules like dataTrack (real-time device-level energy visibility), pTrack (peak forecasting and prediction), and the AI Energy CoPilot itself, Edgecom will empower facilities to optimize operations, reduce energy waste, and participate in grid support programs without extra staffing or technical expertise. These tools work together to automate energy insights, detect inefficiencies, and provide actionable recommendations tailored to each facility’s consumption patterns.

This hands-on deployment will also generate new local knowledge and help create baselines for decarbonization planning, while demonstrating measurable GHG and cost savings across participating sites.

Expected Impact

  • Grid Resilience – Reduced strain during peak hours via AI-powered demand response

  • Economic Benefit – Operational cost savings and access to new revenue from grid participation

  • Scalability – Easy expansion across Alberta and beyond through Edgecom’s modular platform

  • Emissions Reduction – Estimated annual GHG reductions of up to 2.7 kilotonnes CO₂ across pilot sites
